A new Conducting masterclass is born in Constanta

11/08/2024

The 1st edition of the Constanta International Conducting Masterclass has come to an end, after a successful week of masterclasses and lessons taught by Gaddiel Dombrowner with the Constanta State Opera on stage playing for the conductors. The week of the masterclass ended with a final concert where all conductors received a work or more to conduct.

The repertoire of the masterclass exhibited a full range of styles:
Dvorak | Symphony No. 9 in E minor “from the New World”, Op. 95
Verdi | “Nabucco”, Overture
Mozart | “Don Giovanni”, K. 527, Overture
Weber | “Der Freischütz”, Overture
Puccini | from “La Boheme” : Duet ‘O save fanciulla’ & Aria ‘Quando men vo’
Verdi | from “Un Ballo in Maschera” Recit and Aria ‘Forse la soglia attinse – ma se m’e forza perderti”

The conductors chosen to participate at the masterclass were:
Katalin Zsuzsa Albert (Romania)
Vili Robert Ollila (Finland)
Ahmet Ozden (Turkyie)
Macarena Quantin (Argentina/Italy)
Sam Scheer (England)
Moshe Slushtz (Israel)
Gonghui Yang (China)
Yingzhi Zhang (China)

Each of the participants received daily masterclass with Gaddiel Dombrowner, 90 minutes of podium time in total and performed in the final concert. Gaddiel wished to have a small class compared to many other masterclasses who accept much more, so that every student gets significant podium time and a better attention to details during the lessons.

I would also like to thank the wonderful Constanta State Opera Orchestra for their wonderful work, patience and support for the conductors. They were just amazing and made this masterclass an amazing experience for everyone! Thank you and see you next summer for the 2nd edition!
