On December 9th, Gaddiel conducted the Constanta State Opera in a fully staged performance of Ballo in Maschera by Verdi. Singers soloists were from the Opera house:
Razvan Sararu sang the demanding part of Riccardo and Elena Rotari sang the tragic part of Amelia, Daniel Pop with his brilliant voice sang Renato, Lucia Mihalache and her deep Mezzo voice sang Ulrica and Silvia Simionescu sang the part of joyful Oscar.
Ballo in Maschera is one of the most demanding operas by Verdi, for singers orchestra and conductor.
The music moves back and forth between jolly and deeply serious or tragic events that are occurring on stage. The quick change for example in act II of Amelia’s identity revealed to Renato (and therefore her love affair with Riccardo), to the jolly Samuel and Tom finding all this quite funny; or Oscar entering immediately after the plot to kill Riccardo was made etc…, is what makes Ballo in Maschera such a brilliant and unique Opera to perform.
The almost full house at the opera gave the whole production a standing ovation.
For Gaddiel it was his official debut in Romania, and as well for an opera production in that country, and talks are already in motion to come back for a future performance during 2024.
